The Little Mill Inn, Rowarth

A great local Inn in a picturesque location, the little mill is situated on the Manchester side of the peaks. Tucked away down some impossibly quaint country lanes and perched next to the River Sett, it has great walks from its front door as well as some pretty hard-core mountain biking!

It is just a short drive from here to local beauty spots like Kinder Scout, Edale and Hayfield. The Inn is also well located to drive into Manchester if you want to see some of the city on your trip.

The Inn serves hearty food with a great children’s menu and a range of local ales. It also offers log fires in the winter. The outdoors has a great play area to keep children entertained right next to its garden dining area. 

The deluxe apartment is self-catering and can sleep up to five people, and it is fully equipped with everything you need for a longer stay. It features an open-plan living room and kitchen with a double sofa bed, one double bedroom with a super king or twin bed and a single bed.

It is also pet friendly, with four-legged friends welcome to stay. After all, it would not be a holiday without them!

The Ladybower Inn, Hope Valley

This beautiful old Inn is set just next to the Ladybower Reservoir and is perfect for families looking for adventure on their holiday. From here, you are a short drive from some wonderful family walks and bike rides around and above Derwent Reservoir as well as being a stone’s throw from Castleton and all it has to offer.

The Inn is regarded very well locally for its food and has a fantastic menu for both adults and children. The inn’s exterior reflects a blend of traditional charm and contemporary design, while its interiors exude a welcoming atmosphere that caters to both parents and children.

The spacious family room (one double bed and two twin beds) is ideal to recharge and relax after a long day.  

Explorers Retreat, Matlock Bath

The High Peaks answer to Disneyland! Explorers Retreat is the most modern on our list and is situated in the middle of Matlock Bath and is just a stone’s throw from everything this beautiful village has to offer, including Gulliver’s Kingdom.

It has a range of themed rooms, including some of the coolest bunk beds we have ever seen and even indoor camping! 

With so much to do on your doorstep, including the Heights of Abraham and Matlock Bath Aquarium, it is the perfect base to go and explore this wonderful area.

There is a range of rooms available designed with families in mind; Gully’s Indoor Camping can sleep up to 10 in indoor tents and also includes kitchen facilities. Most of the other suites can sleep between four and eight.

The Old Hall Inn, Chinley

The Old Hall Inn is a family-friendly hotel with a real sense of History. It has a charm that dates back to the 16th century, combined with a sense of modern luxury, and is situated in one of the prettiest parts of the peaks. There are some great family walks near Chinley, including around the beautiful Churn, Mam Tor and Edale. The spa town of Buxton is only a 15 min drive away.

For families, The Old Hall has a welcoming Two Bedroom Annex. This Annex can sleep up to four people in two double beds in two separate bedrooms. The room is nicely separate from the Inn itself, so noise should not be an issue.

This country pub offers a seasonal menu with traditional favourites prepared using local produce as well as a great children’s menu, and the bar serves a wide selection of local ales.

Chatsworth House is 20 miles away, and the area of Kinder Scout offers scenic walks, just 20 minutes drive away. Free private parking is available.

The Maynard, Hope Valley

Just a stone’s throw from one of our family favourites, Padly Gorge, The Maynard has been beautifully decorated with a contemporary feel while still showcasing its original features and beautiful garden. The Maynard offers a captivating blend of history, comfort, and family-friendly hospitality that is sure to create cherished memories for all members of the family.

The central location of The Maynard allows families to explore Hope Valley and its nearby attractions. There are leisurely walks close by, including a family favourite, Padley Gorge, as well as other outdoor adventures. Sheffield is also just 20 mins drive away with all it has to offer as well.

The Superior Family Room has a double bed and sofa bed.
